I am so jealous that you are doing this project. It is something that I have wanted to do for years. I always wanted to become a Nautical engineer when I was growing up but my math ability was bad so I became an Interior Designer and I have redecorated the interior spaces of some navy ships and many private yaCHTS. I SPENT THE ENTIRE SUMER, WHEN I WAS 16 YEARS OF AGE, LEARNING THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OD SYSTEMS OF SHIPS FROM A WONDERFUL SET OF BOOKS IN OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY. All of that knowlege was not wasted since when I started doing nautical commissions, I could talk intelligently with the engineerrs and finishers of the vessels I worked on. Sorry for the yelling in big letters earlier. My left pinkie finger occasionally hits the caps lock and I dod not know it. One of my best friends until his passing away not long ago was Commodore Alexanderson who was the master of the SS United States. He had so many wondwerful stories of his 17 years as master of that great ship.
My best wishes for your success as you work on the rebuild project of the Andrea Doria. She was truly one of the most beautiful ships every built and served in her short life as a major flagship for her country.

I was a passenger on the Andrea Doria the year before her sinking. From that crossing, I have some memorabilia, i.e. passenger list, menus, daily ship's activity menu, post cards, and some 8mm film. (Don't know if the latter is in any condition to view...haven't been run through a projector in 50 yrs.) To the point, is there any museum interested in these items?

I was born just two months after the disaster. My father was then third officer on a ships of Costa Armatori, who were doing the same routes of the "Andrea Doria". When he was alive he always remembered with sadness his encounter with that magnificent vessel, not far from where the tragedy would be occurred.
I am a former sailor too and a model maker and I have heard with sorrow of the death of Jacob. In these few lines I wish to express my hope that his masterpiece should not perish and that a few friends gathered together his artistic heritage.

I was named after this ship, I'm so sad to read that Jacob couldn't finish this beautiful work of art.

You continue to do a super job!!! I am curious as to why you didn't use light emitting diodes for lighting. Much cooler and practically never burn out.

My Andrea Doria is a small 1/600 scale, and about 85% done. I got stalled on it several years ago, but hope to get back to it in the next few months.

Keep up the great work!!!

I just wanted to let you know I have been you lovingly recreated the most beautiful ocean liner in the world - cruise ships today have beautiful interiors but look like top heavy shoe boxes with a bow. I cannot wait until you complete the reproduction (calling it a model would be an understatement).

27.07.2010 15:24, Curtis Hawkins E-Mail:
The photo of the bow on your website had no clear reference to size. It looked huge! Was that balsa or plywood? Have you done any work in metal?
